Find out what kind of industrial solvent you are
And presenting the case against the Government will be a small patch of brown liquid, possibly some kind of industrial varnish...

Props to snej.

There seems to be a problem with LiveJournal for Windows and the switchover to Unicode that was made a few months ago. The text looks fine in the edit box, and round trip with special characters intact, but for some reason the LJ server and client aren't agreeing on the right character set to use. Unfortunately, LiveJournal for Windows doesn't appear to handle this correctly, even in 1.4.7 beta 2. Geek out !

Darnit, you're a more interesting solvent than I am, and ecologically friendly to boot. Oh well!

Sounds like your LJ client doesn't grok Unicode (UTF-8) yet. If so, you might want to go into your account info page and set the "Western" character set for legacy posts.

I don't get it
I thought they would have fixed this. Apparently there have been a lot of false steps with the Windows client development lately (apparently one fork that isn't authorized, another that required that the .NET framework be installed) so maybe this just got lost in the shuffle.

I use a Mac client at home, and it already works -- would that conflict with setting the "Western" character set for legacy posts ?

Re: I don't get it
It's kinda complex, but my understanding is that the "character set" setting is only used when LJ is trying to render a post that wasn't declared as using UTF-8 (i.e. from an older client). It should have no effect on posts from an up-to-date client.

Hey, they should put you in a commercial :-)
