Nice Weeds There

Last year, our neighbor had lawn guys come over every week to cut and fertilize the lawn. A lot of good that did. A few days ago I looked at her backyard and noticed big dark patches. These have turned out to be areas of little clover-sized flowering plants that have taken over large parts of the lawn. They have circle-shaped leaves and tiny purple flowers, and the bees love them. It's very pastoral but I wonder what the neighbor thinks.
At first glance, our backyard doesn't seem to have any (our lawn was in pretty good shape last year), but closer inspection reveals a few interlopers from next door. There's a low hedge between our yards, but it's probably only a matter of time before we get more of a purple look to our backyard, too.

If they want to take over the back of the backyard, it's fine by me. We also have a few bare patches that I don't care about either. But I do want some grass around the swingset.

This might end up testing my vow to not use killing chemicals on the lawn (half out of principle, half out of sheer laziness).

They are very cute though. In the early fall, a lot of lawns in Arlington get these little white flowers -- it's supposed to be something that's local to New England, so I always mow around them.
