Local and small isn't always better

Feh, the neighborhood ice cream place, Summer St. Dairy, is going downhill -- weak assortment of flavors, unfriendly service, skimpy portions. I guess for while we'll just have patronize:

  • Brigham's
  • Celebrity Pizza in Watertown, where you can get coffee soft-serve in the summer.
  • Kimball's in Carlisle. It's a bit of a drive but they've got a lot of flavors and generous portions.

Arlington Center used to have a Ben & Jerry's but it's gone now.

Yeah, the local ice cream stand near my house never reopened last summer, and this past fall I drove by one day to discover that it had been completely razed. And now it's just flat dirt. So there you go. It's sad, but then again, they were kind of surly and the ice cream wasn't very good.

I'm going to have to try Celebrity Pizza, now....

I scream
My wife likes Javaberry: that's a swirl of coffee and raspberry sherbet. Mmmm...

That flattened place wouldn't be Chadwick's by any chance ?

Re: I scream
Me too. I don't understand why it's gone; it was always packed and people seemed to enjoy working there. I wish I was around when the "money train" near the ceiling was working.

I've always sort of avoided that chain, since they did fire my mom from her one and only job, but that was 26 years ago, so maybe I can forgive them.

I think that the statute of limitations has passed, don't you ? And people from outside Arlington should patronize Brigham's because it's one of the few big businesses in the town that shores up our tax base !

Yes
We'd better get started right away. But again, it's even better to get everybody from outside the town to do so as well !
