Oooooh how lovely! I now remember you're a fellow mac user. Do you ever watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel? In the last couple seasons of both, they seem to work at lest one mac into each episode! "Oh, yes, demons, let me look them up on my new Titanium PowerBook G4!" Incidentally, my friend's mom just got one of those free from the school she works at, as all the other teacher's requested PC laptops, and the school got some PowerBooks on a grant. It's quite sleek, although I nearly short-circuted it with my excessive drooling.

btw, do you still have that massive Barbara Bunny?

Hello fellow member of the secret church
I watch Buffy
[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<c/ite>') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

I watch Buffy<c/ite> occasionally (because my wife is such a fan), definitely enough to notice all the Macs that both the good and bad guys use -- Apple must be very happy ! I especially liked one sequence where Willow was doing some juju on her iBook. I haven't noticed them so much in Angel -- didn't the office start out with a PC ? Anyway, they do induce techno-lust and the next time we have money to spend on such things, I plan to set a up wireless network at home, get an iBook, and surf from anywhere around the house.

I'm surprised (and glad) that you remember Barbara, but she passed away in November 2000, unfortunately. We still have George, the English mini-lop, though -- ten years and still going strong. !

Yes, they may have started out with a PC on Angel, but Cordelia used an iBook for a while at the office, and I *think* they have a G4 now at the hotel. Also, the new cast of the Real World Chicago has a G4 Cube! Good luck with your wireless network - I'm jealous. My bf is insistent upon getting a PC for making his own DVDs and whatnot, and I am trying to lead him down the right path. Oh well.

I would never forget Barbara! She was a giant bunny! I'm glad George is still around though.

Re: Hello fellow member of the secret church
Barbara was definitely one of a kind. I actually have a little Quicktime movie of her just sitting there sniffing, but I can't find it right now.

I have a DV camera, and you definitely want to make DVDs on a Mac -- it's so much easier every step of the way. PC video editing packages are hard to use. Get thee to an Apple Store and play around with a high-end iMac (the new one); it has a DVD burner and lots of disk space, which you'll definitely need -- uncompress full-motion video chews up 6.8 megabits per second.

If you've got a broadband connection, I am going to post something interesting for my LJ friends that I'm compressing right now. It's friends-only because of the somehow iffy legal status of the material.

Awww, if you find that video of Barbara, please e-mail it to me!

I know!!! It's convincing my bf otherwise that's the problem. He's brainwashed because some friend of his made an Omega Man DVD on a PC and it's so wonderful blah blah blah. My friend Gina made a GREAT DVD of a ski trip she took on her new Mac - it's flawless and she said it was incredibly easy to do. She was lucky enough to get a DV camera for her birthday last October...I'm still saving! What brand do you have?

Oooooh, sounds intriguing! I'll add you to my list!

Well, yeah, it didn't really have to be edited, did it ? They just copied the video source from somewhere else. But original stuff comes in clips and has to be assembled. That's where its gets interesting.

What brand do you have?
A Canon ZR10, which I got in June 2000. It's been replaced by newer models in the same series. It's a little fussy at times (sometimes it wants to eject tapes for no good reason), but it's got very good image quality.and if you bought something similar now it would have all the kinks worked out. In bright light, it's like broadcast quality (with just a little apparent staircasing). In low light, you'll get some color video noise, but in the past cameras that do well in low light with color cost about $5,000. This one was about $800.

Hee hee. I'm still futzing with the compression setting to get it right, then I have to copy it up to the 'net. Let's just say that it's a record of something that a lot people thought they'd never see, and demonstrates the camera's handling of:

 • Being jostled by an excited crowd.
 • Recording very loud sounds.
 • Low or harsh key lighting.
 • Telephoto/zoom.

Yes, that's good; it's finish and looks and sounds reasonable given the bandwidth constraints. The download should be worth the wait.
