We saw the UMaine Black Bears beat the UMass Lowell Riverhawks last night in the second game of their quarterfinal series (Hockey East) last night in Orono -- it didn't start off too well, with the Bears giving up a goal in the first twenty-eight seconds of the game, but they settled down and scored all the goals they need in the second period. The 'hawks punched through for two quick power play goals (two- and one-man advantages), but that was the end of that. Plus they handed out big, free, chocolate chip cookies at the main entrance/exit after the game !
The Alfond is still the shrine to hockey it's always been, but man, the shop has expanded into a slick retail operation and there's definitely been a "gotta spend money to make money" initiative undertaken there. And Bananas was nowhere to be seen.
Before the game, we checked out Old Town (where Georgia-Pacific has a big paper mill) and had dinner at Pat's Pizza.
Hopefully we'll be cheering on the Bears this Saturday the Garden -- can I call it that ? It seems, well, sacreligious...
