Shattered

I was down in the underground lair tonight, when suddenly I heard something like a crash, and O yelling out. I came up and found out that while she was unloading the dishwasher, a glass simply exploded when she touched it. It was a fairly substantial glass, one of a set of Arcoroc glass that we've have for years. Because O had barely opened the dishwasher door when she touched the glass, most of it ended up on the bottom of the dishwasher, but some fragments flew up and ended up on the floor. O had to rinse the flatware and some of the plates to make sure no glass ended up on them.

It's very disturbing when glassware attacks.

Apparently Arcoroc glass is prone to this. (Maybe this is the French way of getting revenge on us.) For a long time, Crate and Barrel stopped carrying their set of nesting glass bowls because some of them would spontaneously explode. Glass is weird stuff.

I guess we won't be looking for Arcoroc replacements, then ! My first guess would be that it's got something to do with stress building up after they've been dried in a dishwasher…

I love the sound of breaking glass
You'll be finding bits of glass for years (based on my experiences with exploding glasses and dropped Conrinware lids). It always amazes me how far that stuff flies through the air. I'm glad no blood was spilled!
