iZotope's Vinyl simulates the characteristics of record (those flat round black things) playback in the digital domain, for those times when ProTools is just too clean. All you need is a processor capable of performing well on their 64-bit math to simulate a Garrard turntable with a bunch of fuzz on the stylus. Or you could just get access to an acetate cutter and a Garrard turntable with a bunch of fuzz on the stylus, although that would probably cost you more than Vinyl's asking price, which is zero.

The truly hardcore are waiting for Shellac, which simulates 78 rpm artifacts and the characteristics of recording and playback of hand-cranked discs through acoustic horns.

I Have No Idea What They're Talking About

From “Losing My Edge” by LCD Soundsystem:

i'm losing my edge
the kids are coming up from behind
i'm losing my edge
to the kids from france and from london

but i was there
i was there in 1968
i was there at the first Can show
in Cologne

i'm losing my edge
to the kids whose footsteps i hear when they get on the decks

i'm losing my edge
to the internet seekers, who can tell me every member of every good group from 1962 to 1978
all the words

i'm losing my edge
to all the kids in tokyo and berlin
to the art school brooklynites in little jackets
and borrowed nostalgia for the unremembered 80s
i'm losing my edge

but i was there

i'm losing my edge
i can hear the footsteps every night on the decks

but i was there
in 1974, for the first Suicide practices
in a loft in New York City
i was working on the organ sounds
with much patience

i was there when captain beefheart started up his first band
i told him
"don't do it that way
you'll never make a dime"

i was there
i was the first guy playing daft punk to the rock kids
i played it at CBGBs
everybody thought it was crazy

we all know
i was there

i've never been wrong
i used to work in a record store
i had everything before anyone

i was there
in the Paradise Garage DJ booth with Larry Levan

i was there
in Jamaica during the great sound clashes

i woke up naked on a beach in Ibiza in '88

but i'm losing my edge
to better looking people
with better ideas and more talent
who're actually really, really nice

i'm losing my edge

I heard you have a compilation of every good song ever done by anybody

every great song by the Beach Boys. all the underground hits

all the modern lover's tracks

i heard you have vinyl of every niagara record, on german import

i heard you have a white label of every seminal detroit techno hit 1985 86 87

i heard that you have a cd compilation of every great 60s cut

and another box set of the 70s

i hear that you're buying a synthesizer, and an arpegiator and throwing your computer out the window because you want to make something real

you wanna make a Yazz record

i hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables

i hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and bought guitars

i hear everybody that you know is more relevant than everybody that i know

have you seen my records?

<massive doubled-up jumble of acts like This Heat, Pere Ubu, Soft Cell, Gil Scott Heron, David Axelrod, The Normal, Scott Walker, The Slits, Mantronik, The Swans, etc.>

You don't know what you really want <repeat til fade>

[Ganked from here.]

Weird Upon Weird

OK, first there's this sign of the End Times from substitute. The video has a lot of screen captures with captions in Korean (and of course the text makes a lot of references to Reverend Moon).

Then I go use my address book on Yahoo! about thirty minutes later and I see this:
