Wacky Weather

Bad: our sump pump was slow on the uptake overnight, so O and I spent sometime mopping up this morning. No damage, but I prefer my underground lair dry, thank you. The plumber had to fix the installation for free (damn straight). Please, California, take our rain.

Good: the cloud formations are now changing rapidly now, as I look to the west (Charlestown). Five minutes ago the low sun was hitting the smokestacks like a spotlight. Now we've got a huge low cloudbank moving southacross Cambridge, and that doesn't happen very often. Weather for the weekend is supposed to be good.

It depends on where. The stuff further north is foresty (Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead), and is a problem because of an insect infestation that killed so many trees up there. The dead trees where match sticks in the ground at that point.

Here in the L.A. area it is chaparral- the transitional mix of trees and ground brush.

Think Mediterranean climate here instead of desert.

Same with the San Diego area stuff, with the added problem of some communities having old stands of eucalyptus. Dense old trees with lots and lots of dead fall off from them still covering the ground.
