Geekery, or, Solutions Beget Problems

OK, so I managed to activate Internet access (including web and .Mac email) setup for my mobile phone. I don't imagine I'll be surfing the net much on it, but having access to my “real” email will be pretty convenient. On the other hand, it was funny to see a little page I authored show up on the phone's tiny screen. And then, of course, there is the elephant in the room, i.e., LiveJournal access.

As it turns out, the phone I use (Siemens S56) supports something called Java MIDP, which is a stripped-down API that mobile devices (such as phones) can support. And because it's a small world, the most promising LJ post client is written by LJ friend-of-a-friend-by-several-paths brianenigma.

Also, I switched over to the S2 style system so that I could build myself a view that is ultra-minimal for use on small screens and nearly-text-only browsers, although if anybody knows of any S2 public styles that fill the bill, let me know. No, don't worry, my comments pages will look like the standard system ones.
