I've seen a too many of those bands; and been to every night club.

they're missing Madam Wong's, Madam Wong's West, the White Horse, Raji's and Helen's Anti-Club; none of which ever balked at an obviously bogus I.D. and as such were our favorites.

Gazarri's was mostly a metal/hippie club. The Rainbow was unpredictable: they would have The Birthday Party one night; and then some southern rock act the next.

I started going to clubs when I was sixteen; the drinking age was 21. Only Helen's let in under-18; most of the rest were 21-and-up most nights. But I had a pretty good fake I.D.

a lot of the punk rock shows took place in odd places like airplane hangers in San Diego; parking lots that someone had rented; one-night venues like desert lots.

You could always get in to legit places like The Country Club (where I saw Iggy Pop and Rockpile) or the Santa Monica Auditorium (where I saw Iggy Pop and Gang of Four; and later, Motorhead.) I have no idea why we saw Motorhead; maybe because the Plasmatics warmed up.

thanks for the memories.
