I heard a very good block of songs on WZBC this morning; it was an indie pop show that featured “soft” psychedelia, b-esque-pop, punk-oid stuff, and even the more melodic variants of glitchtronica that are kicking around out there (from Iceland, of course !). Programming that strings together pieces by feel instead of format or scene is what makes radio worthwhile. It's still more of a thrill to actually hear a group like the Clientele than to sift through reviews and messages about how great they are. Words can't convey the pure pop buzz that you can get from a song like “Soldier Girl” by the Polyphonic Spree (if you're into that sort of thing).
I was actually kind of lucky, because the person who did the show normally is on Thursdays 12-3. Too bad WZBC's signal is so dodgy at the office.
