Yum.

Wonder if it interferes on shortwave.

You know, that interference issue must be terribly frustrating for you. I wonder if there's some kind of cage or screen that could help for devices that insist on spewing noise in the shortwave band.

I think this would also be cool for recording birds; there's been a screech owl hanging out in our neighborhood the past few evenings, and I'd like to record him (or her -- there might be two !). Bringing out the iBook into the backyard seems kind of awkward, and the light from the display might scare the owls away.

Indeed, the RF (interference) generated by modern recording equipment is the most frustrating thing ever. I even get it on my best recordings with the DAT machine, but it's still a step above Mini Disc, which was unbearable under any conditions. I've tried a bunch of filters, cables, etc., and nothing seems to work. Given that they are now testing a mode of digital cable that transmits via telephone lines and vomits noise all over shortwave, I don't think it's much of a concern for anyone anymore. But, hey, hope springs eternal, right?
