Greetings From the UK

Quick bits:
  • The weather has been cloudy, but not too bad. Of course, it's supposed to get better on Friday, when we leave.
  • We've done a London Bus tour, a little of the British Museum, a nearby palace, a Thomas the Tank Engine event out in the southwest, and Legoland Windsor.
  • My brother and I are going to Canterbury today.
  • The British rail system might be mediocre by European standards, but it beats the US, still.
  • My brother has DSL so I've been able to copy my camera photos back to my home computer.
  • I was able to pop my SIM card from my US-only GSM phone and place it one of my brother's old ones, and it works without any wrangling from Cingular.
I hope you're all doing well !

Re: I WANNA GO TO LEGOLAND!
Hey, there's also a Legoland in California, between San Diego and LA, if you want to visit the land of the cheap !

Could be ! If you saw a little boy taking pictures of everything in the Early Empire or Italian tribes section, and a guy in a blue corduroy jacket from about 3 to 5, that was us !

Also, took a look at your journal, and....
My brother and I did a road trip through Canterbury, Dover, and a lot of the Kentish countryside, then going to Sussex (I think) today.

Tech stuff: GSM is a worldwide mobile phone standard. One of the features is that your phone number (and things like a small address book) can be stored on a little card (a SIM card) about the size of a fingernail. You can take it out of one phone and put it in another, and voila, you can be reached at that new phone. What's weird is that I have to dial like I'm in England, but if you want to reach me, you just dial my normal US number. I am still getting my daily Cambridge weather reports sent to me on the phone as a text message, so I know you guys were sweltering (or had been) as I was walking to the local supermarket in the drizzle last night.

Thanks for the kind thought; we're going to try to make the best of our last day and half.
