Darn little thing !

One step forward, two steps back. We heard Peaches stop scratching, so we decided to go for it and pull back the stove. Not there ! The hole in the wall behind the stove didn't lead to much space (due to wall studs on either side). There's another small hole where the peninsula joins the wall, but it looks really small and we think we'd hear scratching. He probably made a getaway while I was moving the stove and we were distracted. We checked all the obvious places (corners, behind the refrigerator). And we plugged access to the problem area, just in case.

So at best he's laying low for the day, and we'll resume the hunt at night. At worst, well...

At least the spots under the range and refrigerator are clean now. K said she hated hamsters as classroom pets (she used to work for the state) because they were so escape-prone. Yep, she's right on that count !

Just last month Jed was reading "I, Houdini", a book whose protagonist is a hamster who has many daring escapes...
