Kids and Food

S1's first song:
I want to sit there !
I want to sit there !
I, I, I, I want to sit there !

Say what you will about Nigella Lawson, she is right about kids and meatballs.

There's a cool article on strip mall restaurants in LA, but I always roll my eyes a little when people express amazement at how good the food can be in cheap “ethnic” restaurants — duh, that's where the action is, buddy !

mmmmmm Nigella Lawson with a side of meatballs. I'm a fan of both.

I still refuse to register with the NYT, just because I'm a difficult crank.

Try this tinfoil hat. I find it reduces unwanted mind-control intrusions by up to 87%.

I just read that article, on paper (I won't register either) and it seems that those slumming New York fancy-pants have been following us around! They have outed six cheap good restaurants that we love & frequent. The article is dead-on right about all those places; someone did their homework.

but I've still got a few aces up my sleeve.

Palms Thai is fine, I suppose, but better/cheaper/hotter food is across the parking lot at Ruen Pair. So there!

and new faves include Rincon Salvadoreno, where they don't even speak English, but have awesome moist chicken & rice & plantains served on paper plates; and a Cuban place in Atwater whose name I never learned but who have a killer Cuban Sandwich, enough food for two people, for $4.00.

oh I'm hungry now.

I wish I could fly over right now !

O and I went to a really good Filipino place in Tustin, but it wasn't in a strip mall. We were also impressed by the football-field sized dim sum palaces with cold, colorful, flourescent drinks.

Sigh. The idea of either of my kids touching that meal with a ten-foot-pole makes me burst out guffawing. Neither one would touch the meatballs, and J would give Nigella a lessoon on the poor dead animals. N might pick out and eat the strawberries, but both would recoil at the nasty whipped cream.

That's OK, I'll eat their unused portions!

Yeah, our kids wouldn't really appreciate the sauce, but they do like meatballs — and S0 really likes the Swedish meatballs at IKEA.

Oh, and that's a great song. S1 should sell it to They Might Be Giants, in case they do a "Fingertips part 2".
